We at the Calgary Pregnancy Care Centre realize that our most valuable resource is our exceptional volunteer staff. Our clients come to us with many difficult issues and we want to serve them with care and integrity. As our mandate includes maintaining a standard of excellence, we are committed to ongoing training. Potential volunteers are interviewed, references are checked and a police check and confidentiality agreement is signed before anyone is invited to participate in training. Over twenty-two hours of in house training is only the beginning. A minimum six to eight week staff supervised orientation follows with a commitment to participating in regular teaching in-services. Our highly motivated volunteers appreciate being equipped by the learning experiences continually provided. All programs and volunteers are evaluated on a regular basis.

We are privileged to partner with several colleges in providing practicum experiences for their students. These students give many hours of service in exchange for a unique learning opportunity with client contact. While many of these students stay on as volunteers others take this valuable experience into their careers. Seeing lives changed by offering help during a crisis time is a life enhancing experience for staff, volunteers and students. “I receive so much more than I give” is a commonly spoken statement.
